1938-48 Plate Flaws
King George VI Plate Flaws
New discoveries?

I have often while inspecting stamps put aside any that have any odd characteristics, like a bob of colour, missing colour, deformed letters etc but thinking that nothing will come of them and they would be consigned to the spurious random occurrence category. Recently i was able to examine a stock of some several thousand King George VI definitives comprising many hundreds of each value to 1s, this collection had already been scrutinised by its owner and another leading member with the Circle so i hadn't expected much and certainly none of the 'listed' flaws were found.

As shown below i was able to confirm and find some new flaws which (sort of) justifies my several days (totalled hours) spent bent over a table squinting through an eye glass. I have numerous 'potential' flaws put aside but those listed below are the one's i have found with two or more identical reproductions thus proving to me at least these are constant flaws and worthy of a plate flaw listing - as with all the George VI plate flaws, even those catalogued under SG worth hundreds of pounds, the flaws may possibly only be found from specific printings and panes and may not be constant on every sheet printed

I am hoping members (or non members) with sheets or large multiples of the below values can check to see if any of the below can attributed to a sheet position/plate etc

To view the flaws in more detail click on the images.

I have put a forum link under each flaw so anyone can add comments.

Although I already knew of the flaw (and thought it was quite well known) I have included this variety because a) i found examples during this examination b) it does not appear in the George VI study paper?
